Sabbath

As these last 14 months have come and gone, working, taking care of the family, the house, the issue of transportation...and the lack thereof for 7 months...and all of the other insanity that life has thrown at us this past year...I'm finally unplugging and getting away...in the process I've also realized something...
The Sabbath isn't just a holy day to spend in G-d's presence...though that is what you think of when you hear "Sabbath"...the day with the family to worship and bask in the rest of G-d's presence together...
But it also extends to a break from life itself...the time you take away to not be at work, and to just be with your family...spending time with the Blessings He's given, your spouse, your children, and the rest He provides during these "down" times.
This year we once again head out to my dad's place. Low tech capitol. No internet, No cell signal, No computers...just time with G-d, family, and the simple pleasures of watching deer on the pond dam, or hummingbirds at the feeders, the plants flourishing in the garden...and the summer breeze as moves across the top of the mountain.
Truly a High Place of rest and restoration ...
We leave Friday...so see ya in a couple weeks

I had always considered the Sabbath to be a time of enjoying the fruits of your labor during the week, or more, a time of enjoying the fruits of creation that come about as a result of work (you may feel good to look back on the week and account for the impact you've made, or the things you've done). I've also understood it as celebrating the provisions God has granted during the week - there is a time for all things under the sun, as Ecclesiastes says.
Quote:
1 To everything there is a season,
A time for every purpose under heaven: 2 A time to be born, And a time to die; A time to plant, And a time to pluck what is planted; 3 A time to kill, And a time to heal; A time to break down, And a time to build up; 4 A time to weep, And a time to laugh; A time to mourn, And a time to dance; 5 A time to cast away stones, And a time to gather stones; A time to embrace, And a time to refrain from embracing; 6 A time to gain, And a time to lose; A time to keep, And a time to throw away; 7 A time to tear, And a time to sew; A time to keep silence, And a time to speak; 8 A time to love, And a time to hate; A time of war, And a time of peace. (Ecclesiastes 3) ![]() And also: Quote:
12 I know that nothing is better for them than to rejoice, and to do good in their lives, 13 and also that every man should eat and drink and enjoy the good of all his labor—it is the gift of God.
(Ecclesiastes 3) Happy trails, and G-d bless you on your Sabbatical! I hope you get the rest you need. |
