just be very careful when you go by the denominations/fellowships/whatever's official stance. the individual churches may be very different. i actually just got out of a fellowship baptist church a few months ago that within 6 years went from being very sound to very off the wall. as long as the individual church outwardly accepts the official doctrinal stance of their denomination they are free to push whatever other doctrine they want.

so yeah check out the individual church to see how it lines up with the word of God.

That is an EXCELLENT point Annie. I've found this to be true as well. There are times when denomination means almost nothing.

Its a very good point because sadly between same denominations they can't always agree. I went to a Missionary Baptist that believe in something that IMHO is not biblical ( that you can not partake in communion unless Baptized in THEIR Church) so I left even though I had been. I attend a different Baptist now and they do not follow that belief.

Great point Annie

Wow, that's terrible! Good for you for leaving.

Along the same lines, there are times when the denomination itself begins to change to other doctrines, and the individual churches need to take a stand and distance themselves from "headquarters". I've seen this happen both for the good and the bad, depending on the doctrinal issues in dispute.

Some smaller presbyterian denominations have reformed, calvinistic doctrine. The PCUSA (Presbyterian church of the USA) is more liberal, and is probably the largest presbyterian denomination but should be avoided if you are looking for reformed calvinist doctrine. However, the Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC), Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), and the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America (RPCNA) are all conservative, Bible believing, reformed, calvinist leading denominations. I am a member of the OPC and am quite familiar with some of the different presbyterian denominations.
