Bible study online, anyone?

Hi there,

A brieve introduction about myself to those who don't know me:

My name is Ryan and I found Christ a little bit over a year ago, ever since then he has worked in many ways in my life, etc... I have been going and still am doing bible studies with many people from a church I am attending and I enjoy it very much.

My offer:

I would like to either have a pastor start a bible study which we can do online using a voice chat program, that I can provide (fees, costs, maintenance etc) with no need of donations.

I am not aware of something like this going on currently but I would very much like to try and join a bible study or two, or start some. I know there's a pastor or two around here, I would like for them to get in touch with me if they like this idea.

In the bible studies I attend, we also have a little bit of guy/girl time to talk about the things that we go through and share them with others whom pray for us. There's lots to learn from an experience like this, I know so.

Please contact me even if you're not a pastor and you're interested in carrying on this idea with me. Like I said everything would be covered.

I know they do bible studies on the server we're linking the IRC to, but I hadn't thought about a voice-chat program for bible studies. I can perhaps set up a group-meeting server (like TeamSpeak or something similar) for that purpose if it'd be preferable to have centralized structure.

But otherwise, I'd be okay with it.

I'm not a pastor, but I'm also not sure whether we have any active pastors at the moment. I'd still be happy to help collaborate on it if you need a hand with it.

yeah that'd be great, I can get a ventrilo or teamspeak server and provide enough room for people to join etc.

I just think that meeting at a certain time and using a voice program has many advantages when it comes to something like this.

Now let's wait and see who else is interested in this? Maybe this can be a sticky thread for now?

Well, right now, the forum server is running on a VPS, and I have another VPS running the IRC, so we have plenty of resources to put towards it if there's enough interest.

I'll sticky it and see what kind of attention it gets.

I have no mic, and I'm not sure how well our schedules will coordinate since we seem to be all over the place. But I like the concept.

There's always a way to get these things done, God will allow us to do so, I take off of work for my Bible studies, one of which is on Fridays and I could be making big money on a weekend night (I'm a bartender) I usually bring home quite a bit of dough, but I chose to comit to these things, I go to another one on wednesday mornings at 6 am, and I am going to start my second year of men's fraternity which goes all the way to easter now in september. Fortunatly my job is flexible in that aspect, I am not saying you're to quit your jobs but we could work around a time when most of us are able to do so and make it possible.

Make time for God, it's rewarding not only in the next life but in this one.

I make time for God. It just might not be the same time as others. In my personal case, when I am able to be online revolves around an infant, making my ability to determine my exact schedule rather limited. I'm not knocking the idea - like I said, I like it. I was just throwing out a possible consideration that might be a hindrance.
