I had one credit card, and it was easily one of the biggest mistakes I've ever made. I have plenty more to say about it, but nothing else that would be acceptable on Christ Centered Forums.
There's no way in six hells I'm getting another credit card, even if; 1) God told me to, 2) the proceeds were going to feed orphans in Africa, and 3) it could be paid off in a month's time.

I was taught a very simple way to use a credit card well. You use it like it's cash. If you don't have the money to pay it off before you have to pay interest on it, you don't need whatever it is that badly. My parents have done that. They have an insanely high credit limit (think in the small house price range) and yet have never got to the point where at the end of the month they can't pay it off and have to pay interest.
Credit cards are good because if there's any fraud, the credit card company takes the blame. If a company tries to cheat you or give a product that is a problem, the credit card company goes in to fight for you.
Basically the principles my parents taught me by their actions with money a simple principle: if it's not a mortgage on a house where you can theoretically pay it back at any time by selling it, you don't need to borrow money.

my parents ingrained in me long before i got my credit card the paranoia thats necessary to use it smartly they would tell me horror stories of people they knew who got carried away with their credit cards and what that did to them and so yeah i learned young that if i got a credit card i would have to be careful never to get crazy with it.

I travel a lot so its not always possible to pay off my card completely by the end of the month but i do watch what i spend and if i know its going to take 3 months salary or something to pay off whatever is on my card i don't bother with it

i use mine like cash too. that and i tell myself i don't have any money all the time and that keeps me from spending... except the not having money part is true now. i'm scrapping by just paying rent and food bills.
