Jackie decided to take a chance and turned around. Behind her was... nothing. She knew that she had heard something. she looked carefully, and decided to change her eyes to cat eyes, since she had sunglasses on. Behind her was a man with blonde hair, blue eyes, and something was on his back. Wings? She'd heard about him. He had run away from home because his father didn't like Angel being a mutant.

"Hey," Angel said, looking at the blind girl. Hopefully she wouldn't get freaked out, since she couldn't see. She didn't look like a mutant, and you never knew what non-mutants would do to a mutant these days.

"Hello," Jackie replied. She was still kind of startled.

"Could you please tell me where I can find Dr. Xaviers school for the gifted?" Angels asked.
"Sure, follow me" Jackie replied "I was just going back there myself"

"You live there?" Angel was surprised "You don't look like a person who would live there"

"Well, things aren't always what they seem, now are they? I'm a shapeshifter"

"I think you can tell what I am, but why the sunglasses?"

Jackie and Angel chit-chatted all the way back to the school. She led him up to Professor Xaviers office, then went to put Rosie and her sunglasses away, and decided that she was hungry. She grabbed some food from the kitchen and went to watch TV. She noticed as she entered that Fracture and Infrared were here, too, then decided to ignore them as she enjoyed her dinner and watched the TV.

After getting his room figured out, Angel decided to see if he could find the kitchen. He was starving! He peeped into a room that had noise and some lights. He saw three kids watching TV. A girl and a boy, who looked like they could be related, were sitting together. He saw another girl sitting on a couch, and recognized her as Jackie. He walked over to her.

"Hey, Jackie!" Angel whispered

"Hey, Angel!" Jackie said, looking up at him and smiling. "Did you get all signed up and settled in?"

"Yes, but I'm starving! Could you show me the kitchen, please?" A low rumble emphasized his statement.

"Sure, right this way! Infrared, Fracture, you guys want anything from the kitchen?" Jackie asked as she paused by the door.

Dana had been conversing with her brother telepathically over political matters, when a girl's voice interrupted her thoughts. DJ was glad for the moment. She hated politics.

"Uh," DJ muttered in reply, with a smile, "Are you offering?"

Alex opened his mouth, laughing at his sister momentarily, and rising to his feet and following Jackie out. "I'll see what's there."

Jackie led Angel as Infrared followed to the kitchen.

"So, what do you guys want? I just made myself a PB&J sandwich, but I noticed that there's leftover mashed potatoes, turkey and gravy in the refrigerator."

"I'll have a PB&J sandwich, thanks. Is there anything to drink?" Angel replied

"Yeah," Jackie said, going over to the fridge, "We have pop, water, milk, grape juice, and Capri Suns. What sounds good?"

"Um, I'll take a Capri Sun. I have had one of those in a long time!"

"Gotcha'. Do you want anything to drink, Infrared? Do you know if Fracture does?"

"Jus' call me Red, for now." AJ said with a smile, "Maybe later, I'll let you know my real name."

"You want a can of soda, DJ?" He asked in his head.

As he heard the reply, he responded to Jackie, "Yeah, sure. Toss me a Pepsi, and a Cream Soda for my sister."

"Anything to eat?"

"Umm... bring me in one of those pre-made sub sandwiches that are in the fridge all the time. Anything with chicken on it is fine." He could hear a smile in the sound of her voice.

"And, a chicken sub." AJ added.

His eyes lingered on Jackie for a moment. She was blind, wasn't she? Or, well, sort-of blind. He couldn't imagine being blind. He knew what it was like to see in heat vision, but he couldn't think of what it would be like to only see in heat vision.

But, he was sort of glad for her, that she had a way out. She was a shapeshifter, from what he knew of her. And she could see with animal's eyes. That must be cool, he thought.

Meanwhile, Dana was watching an update on the Human Torch's condition. The man was severaly attacked by a crowd of civilians outside a night club, just after the war (and Dana did, indeed, consider this a war) began.

She marvelled at how many people thought that the attack was justified. Johnny didn't do anything. He didn't have anything to do with Nitro's explosion. In fact, he pitched in to help clean up. DJ found herself wondering how people could be so prejudice, and stereotypical.

"Alex, hurry up and get in here. They're showing an update on Johnny Storm."

"Ooooh," was the sarcastic reply, "I can't wait to see what they say about him. Ten bucks says they're gonna twist everything around.

DJ sighed, "I'm pretty sure they've already done that."

"Ok, cream soda, pepsi, and chicken sub coming right up! Here's your Capri Sun and PB&J, Angel," she said as she turned around and saw Red looking at her. She wondered what he was thinking.

"Do you need some help carrying that stuff back, Red? Oh, and did you want another sandwich? One for you and one for your sister?" Jackie asked Red. She heard some commotion going on on the TV, and switched her ears to cat ears.

"Oh, great. Just what I wanted to hear. They're doing one of those updates on mutants. It sounds like it's about Johnny Storm, the one who was attacked outside of the nightclub not too long ago. Sometimes the people of this country can be so stupid! I mean, he helped clean up after the explosion! Give me a break!"
She switched her ears back to normal and started to make herself another PB&J sandwich. She finished that, then went and got a can of Sprite out of the fridge. She turned around and saw Angel staring at her.

"What?" she asked

"I didn't know you could shape-shift only part of your body" Angel replied. That was cool! That way she could adjust her sight, hearing, or smell to her situation whenever necessary! Too bad he couldn't do that with his sight.

"Well, I can't do it for too long. If it's necessary I can keep it for long periods of time, but it takes concentration." she replied. She turned around to look at Red, wondering what his reaction was.

Alex looked at her, "Nah, just one. And I'll be fine to take this back on my own." He explained, managing to take the two cans of pop in one hand, and the sub in the other, "Thanks, though."

After her reaction to the news, he replied with, "Yeah, it's Johnny. My sister just told me." He pointed to his head, in the pretense that he was communicating with her telepathically, "I'd imagine that they're gonna twist everything around. What else is new?" He asked sarcastically as he turned to head back into the den.

"Nothing, apparently," she said quietly as Red left the room.

She gathered up her sandwich and pop, then started to head into the TV room again.

"Hey, Jackie?" Angel asked quietly

"Yeah?" she said, turning to face him

"Are you for the bill or against it?" Angel asked

"I'm not decided yet," she said, "But I'm leaning more against it, because of all the terrible things people are doing to mutants! It's not like we chose this or anything, it just happened. And sometimes kids might not know they're mutant until something happens and they hurt someone, and then it was a total and complete accident, but people get mad anyways. Regular people don't even try to understand us, they just think of us as monsters!" She took a breath, trying to calm down after her fiery speech.

"Yeah, I'm against the bill, too, just because of what I've seen in my father, and my experience with how that makes me feel. He doesn't like mutants, like I said, and I was always an embarrassment of him. He never really wanted to be around me, because of my wings. That's why I'm against it. I won't fight until it comes to fight or die, but I will never suppport that bill as long as I can remember my father." Angel said quietly. "Well, lets go back and watch some more of that great depressing news!" he said with false cheer.

"Ok," she said, laughing and smiling up at him. "Sounds good to me!"
