This will short, but it will also be to the point.
Look if you will at John 1:29:
"The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world."
John the Baptist, looks up and see Jesus Christ approaching him to be Baptized.
Now, I want to show you what the Greek says:
"th epaurion blepei ton ihsoun ercomenon proV auton, kai legei, ide o amnoV tou qeou o airwn thn amartian tou kosmou." -John 1:29 (GNT)
Too bad you can't see the actual Greek, but if your interested, you can go to
www.greekbible.com and you can look up the Greek and see for yourself what it really looks like.
Now, back to the point at hand.
You talk about Jesus bearing our sins upon Him at Calvary, and He rightly did, but there is more to it than that. For we shall see that at Calvary, was
not the only time He bore our sins.
In the Greek, we see this word: airwn
Strongs number 142.
Here in this context, it is used in this fashion, it is singular, masculine, and it is a present active participle.
Well all that is fine but what does it mean.
It means that we have an awesome God we serve. Christ as our sin bearer.
I don't envy women for the simple reason of child birth. You carry inside you life, a little person. And at times, this little person can weigh you down. But think of this, as heavy a load as that is, sooner or later, you will have it off of you.
But think of the load of sin our Lord carried.
Now, here is the cookie.
According to the Greek language, when John saw Jesus approaching, "John seeth Jesus coming unto him," John says: "Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world." What John was trying say was Look! Here is coming our sin bearer who is
already, even now carrying our sins upon Him.
Before Jesus even started His public ministry, He was already carrying the
weight of the whole world's sin, past, present, and future, upon his shoulders.
When I was in the military, I could wear a 50 lb. backpack and march 20 miles. At the end, I could not wait to remove that load. Women, you carry around a 6 lb. baby in your arma all day, at the end of the day your glad to put the baby to sleep and get that weight off of you.
But think of the load our Lord carried. Day and night, for 1095 days in a roll. He neither flinched, nor complained, one time while carrying our sins upon Him.
It kinda puts a new light on the song "Oh What a Savior!"
And what an awesome God we serve who could carry our sin through three years of public ministry, right up to Calvary, and onto the cross, without giving in to the weight and pressure.
Praise God!
What an awesome God we have and have the pleasure to serve.
Thought you might like to know that.
God Bless
Till all are one.
